Resort Activities

The ancient walls are steeped in history but nowadays this is a youthful town, with a refreshing, relaxed charm all of its own. Lagos Cultural Centre has a modern auditorium that hosts a variety of music and performing arts. Check local publicity for upcoming events.

Visit Ponta da Piedade, a fantastically shaped headland of great natural beauty about 3km from the centre of Lagos. Take a boat trip from Lagos or walk along the clifftop path from Praia Dona Ana.

Tiffany's Riding Centre is on the main road, EN125, 7 kms west of the town of Lagos, between the villages of Espiche and Almádena, in the Algarve, Portugal. Less than ten minutes drive from the resorts of Lagos, Praia da Luz, Burgau and Budens.

The large, leafy complex houses flamingos, tucans, ibis, parrots and emus, as well as a few wallabies, monkeys and farm animals in a special children's enclosure. There's also a shop, restaurant and an exhibition centre.

The beautiful beaches of the Algarve are inspected regularly and many hold the coveted Blue Flag classification. They offer clear blue water and soft, clean, sand that slips between your toes. The beach at Luz is particularly clean and safe and perfect for families.

Meia Praia
Easily the biggest of Lagos' beaches, curving around the edge of the bay all the way from the marina to the river estuary at Alvor. It is a long open beach, but has not natural shade to shelter. Naturists favour the western end.

An interesting course, is best known for its breathtaking scenery. The setting is idyllic, with the majority of the holes on gentle slopes above the extensive beach stretching from the new Lagos marina to the mouth of the Alvor River.

A friendly Portuguese restaurant about half way between Praia da Luz and Burgau on the local road which runs nearest to the coast. It is on the right hand side of the road coming from Luz, before the right turn to Almadena and almost opposite Porto Dona Maria.

Nestled on the edge of a national park, it is still a working fishing village where you can watch the boats, with their lights bobbing on the moonlit waters, over dinner on one of the restaurant terraces. The walks around Burgau are very rewarding, particularly the coastal ones east to Luz and west to Salema. Steep narrow cobbled streets lead down from the centre of the village to the beach and slipaway.

The very name 'Praia da Luz', meaning 'Beach of Light' conjures up romantic notion. The name is often abbreviated nowadays to 'Luz'.

A real working village with an easy-going, low-key holiday vibrancy, not just during high season, but throughout much of the year. There is a wide range of small shops, restaurants and bars. Everywhere is close to the beach. Water sports, golf, horse-riding, cliff and country walks are all near at hand. It is a peaceful, friendly and safe village.
